AREA Chicago Announces a New Web Project: Report Back

February 11th, 2008 by admin

A new weblog dedicated to documenting events and people’s impressions of them throughout Chicago

AREA Chicago, the publication and event series, has initiated this as an extension of its ongoing interest in documenting activities at the intersections of arts, education, research and activism in Chicago. The site is meant to fill in some of the gaps that occur because of AREA’s infrequent print publication cycle. It is also intended to fill in gaps about the kinds of events people are invited to write about, as local media projects are increasingly focused entirely on a narrow sense of culture as entertainment. Report Back hopes to highlight gatherings that are oriented towards dialogue, reflection, organizing. Examples of gatherings which should be written about may include actions, workshops, lectures, pow wows, retreats, entire event series, exhibits that include a social component, and many more that we cannot anticipate.

Anyone may submit a report from an event they attended at anytime to areachicago@gmail.com. The submissions may be any length and relate to events from any time period. Updated material on the website will be announced periodically in AREA Chicago’s email announcement list. Entries may occasionally be considered for inclusion in AREA’s printed publication series.
